Day 1MARRAKECH – ESSAOUIRA (6hrs drive)

Your day trip to Essaouira from Marrakech will begin with a drive along the Haouz planes to Chichaoua Village where you will stop for a cup of coffee before you continue to Sidi Mokhtar. You will come across the Argan trees forest where you will spot some goats climbing trees. A stopover for some photo session will be made before we carry on the journey to Essaouira.

A visit to a local ladies’ Argan oil Cooperatives will take place to witness the productions of how this liquid gold is extracted or famously called Moroccan Oil and how some of the finest and luxury cosmetics are produced by the locally made out of the rich Argan Oil.

From here, we will carry on to Essaouira. Once we reached Essaouira, you will be free at leisure to explore this beautiful city. Exploring this beautiful Essaouira is easy. The locals are very friendly, the Medina is pretty small (compared to the other old towns in Morocco) and its streets are in order. The guide is not needed for the tour in the city as its streets are aligned opposite to each other unlike any other maze-like Medina in Morocco. But should you insist on hiring a local guide, please just talk to your driver and he will be happily arranging one for you.

You can start by visiting the harbour with its fishing port and old Portuguese fortifications. You can still see the medieval war cannons aligned in order, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Then continue to the Medina (old city) with its well-kept fortification dating from the 18th century. The major landmark of Medina is La Scala which was built against foreign attacks from the sea. You can continue to Bab Laalouj (one of the main gates of Essaouira) then to the Mellah (the old Jewish quarter).

There are various art shops, galleries, souvenir shops and thuya woodcraft shops along the way, aligned in order. We would recommend you to choose one of the local cafés for a delicious seafood lunch and we will be heading to Kasbah, famous for having served as a military bastion. If you are a beach lover, enjoy a walk along the sandy beach of Mogador and maybe watch the locals playing beach ball. You are also welcome to join them if you are brave enough for a game or two. Again, the people from Essaouira are very friendly! Otherwise, you can have a relaxing sunbathing time for yourself while watching the watersports activities from the amateurs kitesurfers and windsurfing.

The Essaouira trip will end in the late afternoon back to Marrakech with a drop off at your local hotels or the nearest car accessible point to your riad.
